Housing developments in the village
The parish council is consulted on every planning application within the village boundaries. We pass on to DMBC Planning Committee our views and your opinions and they are taken into account in the decision whether to grant approval or not. We can only put forward views to DMBC; they have the final say-so.

In the recent past we have commented on a number of proposed developments, some we are happy with, others not. But our current concern is that if all the proposals are approved it will add about 160 / 170 homes to our village. We have asked for a meeting with DMBC planning to discuss the overall impact of these developments on our village life. We are waiting a date for that meeting.

The Pond
The pond is a central feature of our village. You will have seen that it is currently in a poor state. We have tried a number of ways of getting rid of the green colouration; none have worked. In recent weeks we have spoken to a number of "experts" all of whom have made their recommendations. We are considering each one and looking at ways in which we might raise the necessary finance.

Dog fouling
We continue to have a problem with dog fouling on our pathways, pavements and playing field. We have requested a more frequent presence of DMBC dog wardens in the village particularly on Old Bawtry Road and the playing field. Thanks to all those responsible dog owners who comply with our "dogs on lead" and "pick up" byelaws. If you have any suggestions or ideas how we might persuade those who do not obey these byelaws, please let us know.

Hedges and overhanging trees
The growing season is coming to an end so it's a good time to trim your hedges and trees, especially those that border footpaths and pavements. As a general rule, pushchairs and wheelchairs or two people walking side by side, should be able to pass your hedge without having to go onto the road. Tree branches should have a 6foot 6inch (2 metre) clearance so that "most" people can walk under them without stooping.

New pavilion on the playing field
The playing field is used by a number of cricket and football teams, but changing and catering facilities are limited. We desperately need a new pavilion. Finningley and Blaxton Parish Councils are working together with the Playing Fields Association to raise the necessary finance. Would you support a fund raising event? Any ideas; talk to Richard Johnson.

Allotments
Some time ago we were informed that there are some people in the village interested in an allotment. We have a small area of land available but it is not big enough to provide more than a few plots. We are currently in discussion with the owners of the land adjacent to our plot and hope to persuade them to help out. Watch this space!

Local policing
There has recently been a change to policing of villages in the area. Instead of a dedicated police person for Finningley we now share with other villages. Your council is monitoring these changes closely and has regular contact with the police and neighbourhood safety team at monthly PACT (Partners and Communities Together) meetings. Reports are given at council meetings. We also closely monitor crime figures in the area. If you have any problems or concerns you can contact any councillor or any member of Neighbourhood Watch.

Anything you want to tell us? Please get in touch.
